Optimos Presents Microsoft SharePoint Solutions at Annual RIO Symposium

Optimos presented its Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007) solutions during the annual US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Regional Information Officers (RIO) Symposium in San Antonio, Texas on May 15th and 16th, 2007. Over 200 RIOs were in attendance to preview solutions from a variety of technology providers currently working at USACE across the country.

MOSS 2007 is a powerful business tool providing a wide range of functionalities including collaboration, portals, Enterprise Content Management, Enterprise Search, as well as business process and forms that integrate seamlessly with daily workflows. It is highly customizable, intuitive for users and significantly enhances the sharing of knowledge that previously resided in silos between fragmented groups.

To assist with a 2005 USACE mandate to capture lessons learned, Optimos launched a 90-day pilot of MOSS 2007 within Military Programs in January of this year, allowing dispersed groups within the organization to share information and standardize communication and knowledge sharing. It’s success lead to the expansion of the project across other groups within USACE over the next few months.

Consolidating lessons learned across the enterprise is one of the key Knowledge Management Initiatives at USACE. “We are pleased to be providing solutions that fundamentally impact the way the Army Corps shares information,” said Russell Talbot, who is an Optimos Senior Analyst directly supporting the CIO office. “This solution not only serves as a fully searchable lessons learned repository but also will be used to drive process or policy changes.” It was important, said Talbot, to ensure that people could see how their valuable lessons impacted other areas of the Corps. Talbot also stated that ease of use, automated email-enabled work flows, and full text search were the primary drivers for choosing MOSS as the underlying infrastructure.

Optimos is already poised to offer MOSS 2007 solutions to other federal government entities and will soon be launching similar projects this summer for other agencies.
